DIANE BLASTIC + LATTE WITH OATMILK
PAUL HENDRICKS + VANILLA LATTE WITH OATMILK
Diane and Paul are the Co-Founders of Bully Ranch, a pit bull rescue whose mission is to provide a refuge for pit bull and pit bull-type dogs where they can receive rehabilitation, training, and ultimately become valued members of loving, forever families. Together, they have been rescuing pit bulls for fifteen years while also following their other passions. Diane is a Master American Sign Language Interpreter, and Paul is an author and writer. They left the island of Oahu five and half years ago to fulfill their vision of opening a pit bull rescue and animal sanctuary. Initially, they were headed for the East Coast, but fell in love with Austin while visiting. Plus, having a ranch in Texas simply made more sense to them. After their beloved Doggy Trejo passed away unexpectedly, they knew it was time to pull the trigger on their dreams and Bully Ranch was born in January of 2018.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE GO TO COFFEE DRINK?
Diane: Cafe Latte with oat milk
Paul: Vanilla Latte with oat milk or a Cortado
DESCRIBE YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE ASSOCIATED WITH COFFEE?
Diane: Going to a coffee plantation in Costa Rica was a pretty memorable experience. It was the first time I saw coffee being grown, roasted, ground, and brewed. It was delicious, and I had a new appreciation for coffee.
Paul: I was drinking coffee at a Starbucks in Waikiki, daydreaming about sitting at my computer, furiously typing so I could finish a round of edits and get my manuscript back to my editor by the deadline. Two years later, I hit send on an email just before the clock struck midnight, sending my re-writes to my editor on my first novel. As soon as I hit send, I thought about that moment sitting at Starbucks daydreaming about that precise moment. It was magical.
DO YOU MAKE COFFEE AT HOME? IF SO, HOW DO YOU PREPARE IT?
Diane: I make it in a regular pot most of the time. If I have a little extra time or need a boost at work, I use a french press. Cafe Bustelo is my go to coffee.
Paul: I occasionally make coffee at home using a Mr. Coffee coffee maker. The coffee depends on whatever my wife purchased, but is usually Cafe Bustelo.
WHAT WAS THE CRITERIA FOR CHOOSING YOUR PLAYLIST?
Diane: I like it to be high energy for exercising or driving. If it's morning or I am cooking, I like it to be smooth and relaxing.
Paul: Music that makes me feel, whether it be nostalgic, aggressive, uplifted, energetic, inspired... It depends on what I'm doing that moment and what kind of emotion I want to express.
LATTE WITH OAT MILK
MACHINE HEAD COFFEE RECIPE
2 oz shot of Espresso
8 oz of steamed Oat Milk
Paul prefers adding vanilla so we will use 7 ounces of steamed oat milk instead of 8 ounces and add 1 ounce of homemade vanilla syrup.
The health benefits of oat milk? With 3 grams of protein per 8-ounce serving, oat milk is higher in protein than other popular unsweetened alternative milks, such as almond milk, cashew milk, coconut milk, and rice milk. All of which contain basically no protein.
