BLAKE CARLISLE + ICED AMERICANO
"I've co-owned End Of An Ear for 13 and a half years with Daniel Plunkett. Dan and I have been partners for 20 years and we always dreamed of opening up a shop together after he realized his last Record Store "33 Degrees" was coming to an end around 2003. We started End Of An Ear on S. 1st Street near Oltorf in April of 2005. We had an amazing, magical experience at that location for a long time. Things change, and circumstances arose where we needed to relocate. We've been in our new space for about a year and a half now and we couldn't be happier. I just turned 40 last year, and so I guess that means I've been collecting records for 35 years, since when I was like 5 years old. I got heavily into Kiss at an early age and became obsessed with them and Iron Maiden and Motley Crue. I had two older sisters and an older brother who had tons of albums and got me into music really young. I was lucky that way. I've played and collected vintage drums since I was 10 and played in lots of bands my whole life. From Jane's Addiction / Chi Pepps rip off shit, to Death Metal to Hardcore Punk to Experimental to Improvisational Jazz bands and Experimental Rock bands. The store takes up all my time now, so I just practice drums in the garage and have fun. I like all kinds of music. Nothing's off limits unless it has an ingenuine vibe."
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE GO TO COFFEE DRINK?
I like Iced Americanos Black, with lots of ice. Or a regular Hot Cappucino. I despise sugary coffee drinks, but will sometimes use milk or half & half, but not that often.
DESCRIBE YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE ASSOCIATED WITH COFFEE?
My most memorable experience with coffee was when I worked for a Lebanese restaurant and the owners made me coffee that was like some almost black tar shot. It was intense and got me extremely wired.
DO YOU MAKE COFFEE AT HOME? IF SO, HOW DO YOU PREPARE IT?
I make coffee at home through a (gasp) Keurig. I barely finish a whole cup before I go to work, so it works for me. I only use compostible pods.
