INTRODUCTION + NOLAN GREEN + ICED COFFEE
The Recipe + Playlist Series will feature musicians, artists, restauranteurs, baristas, and members of the community who make Austin unique and who share a passion for both coffee and music.
Featured guests will discuss their favorite coffee drink as well as their most memorable experience associated with coffee and then pair it with a playlist that represents how they feel their drink or memory translates to music.
In the sidebar we will include a recipe for each guest's chosen drink tailored for you to prepare at home.
I’m really excited about this series. It will be fun to discover the many different ways in which coffee impacts our lives. The curated playlist will be an excellent avenue to discover new music, and the recipes will be a solid resource for us coffee nerds.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE GO TO COFFEE DRINK?
I usually like to start the day off with a shot of espresso followed by a black coffee but recently I've been enjoying 8oz Americanos. In the afternoon, to cool down on these hot summer days, I go for a Flash Brewed Iced Coffee. I prefer this method over the cold brew method. Flash brew is made fresh. The flavors tend to be cleaner, more defined, and not as bitter. A really refreshing way to get recharged in the afternoon.
DESCRIBE YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE ASSOCIATED WITH COFFEE?
Back in 2008 I had an espresso at Blue Bottle Hayes Valley in San Francisco that was truly memorable. Thick, creamy, and full of flavors. It's been a mission to try to top it but I realize that the overall experience had just as much to do with it as the coffee. I was hanging out with a really good friend on our way to watch a Giants game on a cool foggy summers day. We went back to Blue Bottle next morning. It was good but it didn't have the special magic of the day before. I believe that most memorable culinary moments revolve around an overall experience.
DO YOU MAKE COFFEE AT HOME? IF SO, HOW DO YOU PREPARE IT?
I make coffee at my home three to five times a week. I prefer to use the Kalita Wave but every now and then use a Clever Dripper. I prefer fruitier African coffees and continually try beans from various independent roasters. Wild Gift, Evocation, Madcap, and Coava are my favorite roasters at the moment.
WHAT WAS THE CRITERIA FOR CHOOSING YOUR PLAYLIST?
The heat this time of year is staggering. So I decided to paint a mental picture of where I would like to cool down and enjoy an iced coffee. This is the feeling I am trying to provoke with the playlist: a laid back vibe, chilling near the river under a shade tree, a slight breeze, toes in the water, and mind relaxed...
